The SSB in the model name stands for S Series Swingback. Where the SSR provides four fixed benches, the SSB features a hinged rear seat that rotates to face the stern rather than the bow. For boats that spend most of their time anchored in a cove or actively towing watersports, the swingback configuration provides the best stern access and visibility while keeping the open bow fully available for additional seating.
The tradeoff is slightly less fixed bench seating in the rear compared to a quad bench model, but for buyers whose primary use includes active watersports or lounging at anchor, the SSB typically makes more sense.
Why Bennington 22SSB Boats
The 22SSB is available with Bennington’s SPS package, which adds the center performance tube, WaveTamer, and hydraulic steering. At 23 feet with a full group aboard, the SPS handling upgrade is meaningfully different from the standard two-tube version, particularly once the boat is loaded with ten or more passengers and the engine is asked to perform. The SPS also expands the engine rating to 150 horsepower, which is the right power range for a 23-foot boat running on larger NH lakes.
